Kids and School Crossings
Published 1 year, 11 months ago in Kids stuff. As a proud parent what really makes me mad is some or a few of the Lollypop people. I always thought this job was for people that love kids and care about their safety!
But I see & hear more of these protectors telling kids to hurry up and cross or even more horrifying run. They stop kids in the middle of the crossing asking them how their school day was. Now THIS is WRONG.
As a parent I have always told my kids NEVER run across a road. When they say why I told them if they fall they will not only skin their knees but will more than likely get hit by a car.
These certain lollypop people have done this for years. I think the council should do spot checks on ALL. Not be in uniform do not tell them your coming. Catch them out and replace them, Our kids are more important than these careless people earning a few quid.
And what about the ones hat just walk out and put the sign out when people are only about 3 feet away from the crossing.
Wake up our kids life’s are at stake

This is all so true. Luckily the lollypopo chaps at the school where our children go (Watsonia North), are fairly sensible. Also, the road is not very wide (barely two car widths) and so the children can cross the road within a few seconds, walking. We have also taught our children not to run while crossing the road.

HI Charlie,
Most of you people do it the right way but there is a lot around here that just don’t care I think all it is to them is income. I admire the ones like you that do it for the kids and want to keep our future safe.
Please keep up the good work as Children are our future and need to be looked after.
Regards Aspen
the one near us stops me most mornings, usually there is no one behind me, and talks to every child and most of the parents while they are crossing, and on a good day she even waits for children 3 - 4 houses away to get there as well. No wonder some drivers get annoyed with them.
Sounds like one near us not good
My uncle is a 62 yr old Lollypop man and he loves it. He talks to the parents and kids. He doesn’t make kids run or do anything wrong. There are guidelines for Lollypop people to follow and the council do come out in plain clothes to inspect. It is known as spontanious spot checking. Ever given a thought to the Lollypop people who have to put up with arrogant parents. My uncle had to call in the council on one parent who continually parked to close to the crossing every morning. After he tried for 3 days to unsuccessfuly set her straight he rang his boss. Next day same thing but she copped a heavy fine. She continued to then abuse my uncle and the counil parking officer and by the time she was done she had left with over $600 in fines. So give a thought to the Lollypop people who do a great job looking after our childrens safety.
Some of the kids are a bit bratty to the crossing man at our kids school. They stamp on his foot or try to take his stop sign off him and yell and scream in his face. These people put up with alot of crap for very little money (like alot of people involved in anything to do with kids nowadays). What sort of parents raise their kids to treat elderly people so poorly? He’s such a nice man who always does his job with a smile and gives out lollys to the kids before every school holiday and they treat him like that.
